Coaching has been a long-time passion for me. Many, many people have come through my office seeking advice, counsel, etc., and walked away after a conversation realizing they knew the answer, they just needed someone to help them think it through, facilitate a thought process. I realized I could make a huge difference in the world, one person at a time. I believe my purpose is to leave the world a better place than I found it; coaching is my way to do that.
Business is a lonely place for many people. They cannot talk to their boss, because the trust is not there; or frankly, the boss really does not care. They could go to Human Resources, or to a peer, mentor, etc., but what many people are seeking is that one person they can confide in and have complete trust. Human Resources, in general, is equipped to handle many of those conversations, but they are tasked with so many other priorities, it is often difficult to provide the time needed to do it right.
As certified coaches, practicing the International Coach Federation ethical guidelines, we are bound to keep the conversation with the client confidential. We take that practice very seriously. Over 90% of organizations today use professional coaches in some manner and over 70% plan to increase the use of coaches. Coaching, from a really good coach, is truly life changing. There are sadly, a lot of untrained and unprofessional coaches today who label themselves coaches…vet your coach thoroughly before signing on.
